The chart below shows the results of a survey of 194 people with misophonia who were contacted through the online misophonia groups and websites. While the most common age for onset of misophonia is shown in the pre-teen (late childhood) years, the chart also reveals that the severity increases a few years later.
Several research studies have reproduced the same results: that misophonia most commonly develops between ages 8–13. Studies also show that misophonia can begin at any age, indicating that it is not simply related to maturation.
