Medication for Anxiety or Depression
In a study I conducted, we collected individual treatment histories and their overall effect on misophonia. Because participants reported multiple treatments and only the overall effect, the effect of a single treatment method is somewhat disguised. A regression analysis of the data indicated that, on average, taking medication to treat anxiety or depression had a measurable positive effect on misophonia severity. I am not suggesting this is for everyone, but if you have a problem with depression or anxiety that is unrelated to misophonia, appropriate medication for that condition could also reduce your misophonia symptoms because it could improve your overall health and well-being. Again, it is likely that this medication does not directly address the misophonia, but has an indirect, positive effect on it.
